👉 Philaretou Ioannis Ph.D

Ioannis Philaretou was born in Nicosia in 1982. In 2006 he graduated with distinction from the National Academy in Sofia, specializing in Classical Guitar under the guidance of Rosen Balkanski. He continued his postgraduate studies (Master’s degree), which he completed with honors in 2007, and later pursued a PhD on “Timeless Perceptions, Aesthetics and Performance Challenges in Chamber Music”, focusing in parallel on the work of Cypriot composer Faidros Kavallaris, under the supervision of Prof. Maya Patroneva.

As a soloist, he has performed in Cyprus, Greece, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom and the United States. He has attended seminars on contemporary guitar performance and technique, as well as music technology, and was entrusted with the music editing of Faidros Kavallaris’ work “Parathesis”.

He has given lectures in Cyprus and Bulgaria, while his articles have been published in cultural editions of newspapers in both countries. Since 2006, he has been teaching guitar at the Limassol Music Lyceum “Marios Tokkas”. In the same year, he founded the Vivacissimo Guitar School in Limassol, which has since become an important hub for young guitarists.

Many of his students have excelled in international classical guitar competitions, winning several prizes, while others have secured placements at prestigious universities abroad.

Over the years, he has also organized guitar festivals and concerts, actively contributing to the musical life of Cyprus.

Ο Ιωάννης Φιλαρέτου είναι διακεκριμένος μουσικός και παιδαγωγός με εξειδίκευση στην κιθάρα και τη μουσικολογία. Κατέχει διδακτορικό στη Μουσικολογία και Μουσικές Τέχνες από την National Academy of Music “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” στη Σόφια (2011–2014), με μεταπτυχιακό τίτλο στην κλασική κιθάρα (2006–2007) και πτυχίο Μουσικών Σπουδών με ειδίκευση στην κλασική κιθάρα (2002–2006).

Από το 2012 δραστηριοποιείται ενεργά ως καθηγητής κλασικής κιθάρας και διευθυντής κιθαριστικής ορχήστρας στα Μουσικά Σχολεία Κύπρου, καλλιεργώντας νέα ταλέντα και συμβάλλοντας σημαντικά στην ανάπτυξη της μουσικής εκπαίδευσης στην Κύπρο. Παράλληλα, διδάσκει στη Guitar School Vivacissimo στη Λεμεσό από το 2006 και υπήρξε καθηγητής σε ομαδικά τμήματα του Ανοιχτού Σχολείου Μέσα Γειτονιάς (2007–2021). Οι μαθητές του έχουν διακριθεί σε διεθνείς διαγωνισμούς και έχουν εισαχθεί σε κορυφαία ευρωπαϊκά πανεπιστήμια, αποδεικνύοντας το υψηλό επίπεδο της διδασκαλίας του.

Καλλιτεχνικά, ο κ. Φιλαρέτου έχει συνεργαστεί με εξέχοντες Έλληνες και Κύπριους καλλιτέχνες — μεταξύ αυτών οι Δημήτρης Μπάσης, Κώστας Χατζής, Μιχάλης Χατζηγιάννης, Σταμάτης Κραουνάκης και Μιχάλης Χριστοδουλίδης — καθώς και με την Ορχήστρα Κιθάρων Κύπρου, συμβάλλοντας καθοριστικά στην προώθηση και διάδοση της κλασικής κιθάρας και της μουσικής κουλτούρας στον ευρύτερο ελληνόφωνο χώρο.

Με πολυετή εμπειρία τόσο στην εκπαίδευση όσο και στην ενεργό μουσική σκηνή, ο Ιωάννης Φιλαρέτου αποτελεί σημείο αναφοράς για την κλασική κιθάρα στην Κύπρο, ενώ η διεπιστημονική του προσέγγιση στη μουσικολογία εμπλουτίζει το μουσικό περιβάλλον και την καλλιτεχνική παιδεία του τόπου.
